Connecticut Same-Sex Couples Say Their First 'I Dos'

Amid planning for nationwide protests against California’s passage of the anti-gay measure that re-bans same-sex marriage in the state, Connecticut gay and lesbian couples said their legal 'I dos' for the first time Wednesday. Peg Oliveira and Jennifer Vickery became the first couple to marry in the state since the Connecticut State Supreme Court handed down a decision to legalize same-sex marriage on Oct. 10.

A teacher who resigned from her position at the Thalberg School in Connecticut after pictures of her in a bikini showed up on the Internet is suing school officials for pressuring her to resign. Former second grade teacher Marie Jarry, who popped up on Howard Stern's web site in a bikini as the winner of the 'Ugliest Man, Hottest Wife' competition, is seeking back pay and damages after she says school officials forced her to resign under duress.

Connecticut State Representative Jason Bartlett Comes Out

A Supreme Court judge has axed five years off the 40-year sentence of Sean Burke, who was convicted of beating a gay man to death with a fireplace log in 1998. Judge Raymond Norko modified Burke’s sentence for good behavior, despite opposition from family members of the victims.

Connecticut is one step closer to becoming the third state in the United States to grant same-sex couples many of the same rights as married couples, behind Vermont and Massachusetts. The legislature’s Judiciary Committee decided on Wednesday against legalizing gay marriage but members voted for a measure that would allow same-sex civil unions.

Yale Students Sue Military Over 'Don't Ask Don't Tell'

Yale Law School students Thursday launched a suit against the Department of Defense accusing the military of violating their constitutional rights. The suit challenges the 1995 Solomon Amendment, which threatens law schools such as Yale's with withdrawal of all federal funds if they deny military recruiters access to the schools' career offices.
